    Frequently Asked Questions

The BPR (Regulation (EU) No 528/2012) is a European regulation that governs the placing on the market and use of biocidal products. Following EU exit, Great Britain applies its own retained version, GB BPR, administered by HSE, while EU BPR continues to apply in the EU and Northern Ireland; the two regimes now take their own active-substance and product decisions. Both regulations ensure that biocidal products are safe for humans, animals, and the environment while being effective for their intended use.

BPR-compliant products for Great Britain meet GB BPR requirements, including supply from a source on the GB Article 95 list maintained by HSE. The product label must show the active substance(s), product type (PT), and usage instructions. ChloroKlean products display all required BPR compliance information on their labels, Safety Data Sheets, and Technical Data Sheets.

Product Types are categories defined in the BPR that classify biocidal products according to their intended use. There are 22 product types in total, grouped into four main areas: disinfectants, preservatives, pest control, and other products. ChloroKlean specializes in PT2, PT3, PT4, PT5, PT11, and PT12 products.

While our products are designed for ease of use, we recommend that users familiarize themselves with the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and product labels. For professional applications, we offer training programs and technical support. Contact us for more information.

Yes. Environmental risk assessment is a mandatory part of active-substance evaluation and product authorisation under GB BPR, and applies to the chlorine dioxide routes our products rely on. These assessments evaluate environmental fate and effects. See our environmental policy for our operational commitments.

ACOP L8 (Approved Code of Practice L8) is the UK guidance on controlling Legionella bacteria in water systems. It outlines duties for employers and building managers to assess and control legionella risks. ChloroKlean biocides support ACOP L8 compliance by providing effective treatment for cooling towers, hot and cold water systems, and other water-based applications. Contact us for guidance on your water hygiene programme.

Yes. ChloroKlean chlorine dioxide products are highly effective against Legionella pneumophila and associated biofilms. Our PT2 and PT5 products are specifically formulated for water hygiene applications in healthcare, leisure, and industrial settings where legionella control is critical.
